Scene 1: The Mutiny
Dahlia hates royalty, so when she takes Odette’s place her friend jokes: “You’re a nice girl, but your princess is showing” (In other words, you’re not so nice now you’re a royal”)
Odette protests “That’s not fair!” and Dahlia replies: “But that’s how it’s going!”
“Right & wrong, cruel & kind, who’s to say?” (But Dahlia’s determined not to be cruel like Odette!)
“Every choice, you’re gonna find, there’s shades of grey”
Odette resumes scrubbing as she muses: “Life’s a complicated game it seems”
And Dahlia reminds her “Sometimes you can’t afford to play it clean!”
The mutineers agree: “You’ve gotta get your hands dirty, just jump headfirst into the mess. Gotta get your hands dirty, give it your worst, give it your best! Bad & good, shouldn’t & should, isn’t always black & white, gotta get your hands dirty to get it right! Alright? Alright!”
Scene 2: Choices
A few weeks later, Dahlia explains to Prince Korth that wrong can be right as they debate in the library:
Dahlia: Right & wrong, cruel & kind, who’s to say?
Korth: There’s a code that I believe in!
Dahlia: Every choice, you’re gonna find there’s shades of grey!
Korth: There are rules for a reason!
Dahlia: Robin Hood?
Korth: Yeah?
Dahlia: Awesome guy!
Korth: Yeah!
Dahlia: You’d agree!
Korth: But he stole for the poor!
Dahlia: So you could then cross that line, theoretically! The decision’s always up to you, when there’s only one thing left to do!
Korth: But just how far do you go? How much do you compromise? Oh tell me, how do you know? Where do you draw the line?
Dahlia: There’s nothing I wouldn’t do, if my heart tells me it’s right, if it’s for someone I love - if it’s to save a life!
Korth: To save your life!
The musical ends with a photo of Dahlia & Korth on a bridge.
